2021-2022

The College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office announces funds for grants to tenured faculty seeking to “pivot” to a new direction in their research, scholarship, or creative activity. These funds are awarded through a competitive process.

Eligibility

  • Tenured faculty in UAB College of Arts and Sciences

Funding

  • Individual grants in amounts of up to $10,000 will be funded. Funding requests should be consistent with the disciplinary area. In some disciplines, awards of less than $10,000 are anticipated.
  • Funding is awarded based on potential impact of the funds to accelerate and/or expand the faculty member’s research, scholarship, or creative activity.
  • Funding may be used for all UAB-approved costs, with the following exceptions:
    • Course release is not eligible for funding
    • Travel only to attend or present work at scholarly academic conferences is not generally funded. Exceptions will be considered for faculty to attend specialty conferences or workshops that represent a clear opportunity for new training or learning.
  • Priority areas for funding include:
    • Activities that lead to scholarly productivity and promotion from the Associate Professor to Professor rank
    • Activities that introduce the faculty member to new subfields, new areas of knowledge, or new scholarly opportunities and that propel the faculty member to productive research, scholarship, or creative work
