  • 2023 Community Engagement Institute (CEI) Symposium: Building Health Literacy in Communities
    Tuesday, October 31, 2023 Ι  8am-3pm

In support of National Health Literacy Month, join the Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) Partner Network for the annual Community Engagement Institute (CEI) Symposium on Building Health Literacy in Communities. This year's event is in-person at the Hilton Birmingham Downtown at UAB. Addressing health literacy and ways that communities can work together to build momentum toward advancing health equity is our purpose.

Learn the importance of using health literacy practices to meet the needs of your community and ways that organizations and the people they serve can work together. Join our interactive sessions with (1) speakers, (2) panelists and (3) community partners to share resources, raise awareness and provide education and insight to build health literacy for better health outcomes in our communities.

The CEI Symposium is a collaboration of the CCTS Partner Network, the Center for the Study of Community Health, the Forge AHEAD Center and the communities we serve.

  • The Community Engagement Institute (CEI) Symposium will include interactive sessions focusing on health literacy practices to meet the needs of the community and ways that organizations and the people they serve can work together. Discussions of partnering to improve underserved communities will intersect health literacy, patient safety, and health & well-being. Symposium sessions will aim to empower attendees to transform information into actions for themselves, their families, and their communities to support improved health outcomes.

    Action Learning

    2022 Community Engagement Institute Symposium

Does your research propose partnering with community members and you want to start off on the right foot? Do you want to improve relationships with your community members? Our next ACTion Learning event will explore some of the missteps that arise in initial encounters that could impact meaningful community transformation.

ACTion Learning uses local actors to illustrate real-life scenarios, where you serve as the “director”, molding the scene as it goes. No role-play is involved, so you can feel free to experience the reactions and consequences in a stress-free learning environment. Theories and models become practical because they become personal.
