SPRING 2021 Commencement Ceremonies are April 30 & May 1!

Senior Leadership of the University has not yet made a decision for the 2021 Commencement Ceremonies. When that decision is made, students will be notified and all information will be updated here. An updated Q&A below will be added to address frequently asked questions related to the 2021 Ceremonies, whether in-person or virtual.

Here are a few questions you may have, answered below:

Will students that participated in virtual ceremonies in 2020 have the option to walk in the future?

Yes. However, you will need to register to walk in the future ceremony. The form will be available for students to register to walk approximately 6 weeks prior to the future ceremony date. This will be done in the same way that students registered to walk previously under the "To-Do" list section of the applicable semester's ceremony.

Will regalia be available, regardless of whether the ceremony is in-person or virtual?

Yes. Please visit https://uab.shopoakhalli.com/.

Can I still purchase a cap & gown?

Yes. Please visit https://uab.shopoakhalli.com/. Also, information related to purchasing regalia, including price and order turnaround time, will be made available in the Spring 2021 GradFest video. This video will be sent to students before the end of February. Please see the information below on GradFest.

Will I still receive a program with my name, degree and hometown?

Programs will be made available for all graduates, including Spring 2021, and all 2020 ceremonies. Due to COVID-19, even if the ceremony is in-person, programs will continue to be distributed in a virtual, PDF format. You are welcome to print copies of your program for yourself, and to distribute to friends and family.

Will I still receive my diploma?

Yes. Diplomas are mailed out from the Registrar’s office 6-8 weeks after final grades are submitted (May 4). Please make sure that your mailing address is correct in BlazerNet. Do not use your temporary (on-campus or local address but your permanent address).

When I applied to graduate, I paid a $50 fee. Will this be refunded if the ceremony is to be online?

No. The $50 fee paid when a student applies to graduate covers the cost of printing and shipping of your diploma, not your attendance at the commencement ceremony. You will still receive your diploma by mail.

Will Spring 2021 GradFest be virtual?

Yes, GradFest will still be presented in a virtual format. Please check your email regularly for updates on the 2021 GradFest video, which will be made available for students in late February. GradFest will contain information on the ceremony itself, along with regalia, class rings, announcements, the UAB Career Center, Alumni Society, Graduate School, and more.

All graduating students should attend the virtual GradFest, in order to be prepared for Commencement. This video will be uploaded to YouTube.
