From North (Huntsville, Cullman, Nashville)

  • From I-65 S, take Exit 261C to merge onto I-59/20 S toward Tuscaloosa
  • Take Exit 123 for US-78 W/Arkadelphia Rd/Jasper
  • Turn left onto US-78 E/Arkadelphia Rd, follow for 1 mile
  • Turn left onto Graymont Ave W, follow for ½ mile to arrive at Legion Field

From Northeast (Gadsden, Chattanooga, Knoxville)

  • Follow I-59 into Birmingham, merging with I-20 to become I-59/20 S
  • From I-59/20 S, take exit 123 for US-78 W/Arkadelphia Rd/Jasper
  • Turn left onto US-78 E/Arkadelphia Rd, follow for 1 mile
  • Turn left onto Graymont Ave W, follow for ½ mile to arrive at Legion Field

From East (Anniston/Oxford, Atlanta)

  • Follow I-20 into Birmingham, merging with I-59 to become I-59/20 S
  • From I-59/20 S, take exit 123 for US-78 W/Arkadelphia Rd/Jasper
  • Turn left onto US-78 E/Arkadelphia Rd, follow for 1 mile

From Southeast (Sylacauga, Auburn, Columbus)

  • Follow US-280 W into Birmingham, merging with US-31 N at Red Mountain Expressway
  • From US-31 N/US-280 W, keep right to merge onto I-59/20 S toward Tuscaloosa
  • Following I-59/20 S, take exit 123 for US-78 W/Arkadelphia Rd/Jasper
  • Turn left onto US-78 E/Arkadelphia Rd, follow for 1 mile
  • Turn left onto Graymont Ave W, follow for ½ mile to arrive at Legion Field

From South (Montgomery, Mobile)

  • From I-65 N in Birmingham, keep left to take exit 261C toward Tuscaloosa

  • Turn left onto US-78 E/Arkadelphia Rd, follow for 1 mile

From Southwest (Tuscaloosa, Meridian, Jackson)

  • Follow I-59/20 N into Birmingham, and take exit 123 for US-78 W/Arkadelphia Rd/Jasper
  • Turn left onto US-78 E/Arkadelphia Rd, follow for 1 mile
  • Turn left onto Graymont Ave W, follow for ½ mile to arrive at Legion Field

From Northwest (Jasper, Tupelo, Memphis)

  • Follow I-22 until merging right onto I-65 S toward Birmingham
  • Keep right, and take exit 261C for I-59/20 S toward Tuscaloosa
  • From I-59/20 S, take Exit 123 for US-78 W/Arkadelphia Rd/Jasper
  • Turn left onto US-78 E/Arkadelphia Rd, follow for 1 mile
  • Turn left onto Graymont Ave W, follow for ½ mile to arrive at Legion Field

From Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport

  • Follow signs out of airport to I-59/20 S toward Birmingham
  • Following I-59/20 S through Birmingham, take exit 123 for US-78 W/Arkadelphia Rd/Jasper
  • Turn left onto US-78 E/Arkadelphia Rd, follow for 1 mile
  • Turn left onto Graymont Ave W, follow for ½ mile to arrive at Legion Field

UAB provides the following accommodations for graduates and guests with special needs.

Accessible Parking

Accessible “handicap” parking is available in the lot on the east side of Legion Field in LOT F (between Graymont Avenue and 8th Ave). This lot is available to persons with a valid state issued handicap permits or tags. To access this lot, please show proper handicap credentials to the attendant at the barricade. Please plan to arrive early as reserved seating is not guaranteed

Accessible Entrance into Legion Field

Guests who need easy access are advised to enter through the Graymont Avenue side through gates 7A, 7B, or 7C.

Accessible (Wheelchair) Seating

  • Guests who have mobility impairments are advised to arrive when the field opens, when the availability of seating is greatest.
  • A designated area with limited seating for guests who utilize a wheelchair is available on a first come, first served basis. Guests who use a wheelchair may be accompanied by one companion in the designated wheelchair seating area. Once accessible seating is full, all other guests with mobility impairments (plus 1 guest), will be directed to the main floor area seating.
  • All individuals needing an accessible entrance are advised to enter at either the main entrance (Graymont Avenue).
  • The stage will have wheelchair ramps, not stairs. This will benefit all students walking across the stage to allow for social distancing as well as provide easy access to those who may utilize a wheelchair or crutches. If you need additional assistance, please contact Disability Support Services at (205) 934-4205.
  • UAB does not have wheelchairs available at Legion Field; guests requiring a wheelchair must supply their own.

Auditory Assistance

  • An American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter will be present on stage for guests whose preferred mode of communication is American Sign Language. Guests needing access to view the interpreter are advised to sit in a lower section for better viewing.
  • Real-time captioning services are also available for guests who are deaf or hard of hearing. A captioner will be transcribing the ceremony and guests can view the captions on their smart device.   • Guests viewing captioning through the Wi-Fi network should sit in a lower section for stronger connectivity to the network. If you require captioning services it is recommended that you arrive 2 hours prior to the ceremony, as seating is first come first served.

Elevator is located on the west side of the facility.

Restrooms

An accessible ADA restroom is located on the lower level concourse.

Service Animals

Legion Field is a place of public accommodation. Per the Americans with Disabilities Act, service animals that are specifically trained to aid a person who is disabled may be present at commencement ceremonies.
