ATTENTION PATIENTS: Mask Requirement and Screening

Although the Alabama statewide mask mandate expired April 9, the City of Birmingham approved an extended mask mandate through May 24. If you have an upcoming appointment, please know that all patients and caregivers are required to wear a mask or face covering inside the School of Dentistry facility. These can be cloth masks or commercially made masks.

Warning! Face coverings should not be worn by:

  • Children under the age of two.
  • People who have trouble breathing.
  • Anyone unable to remove the face covering without help.

If one of the above reasons is applicable, please call 205-934-3077 prior to your appointment.

We are also conducting advance and onsite symptomatic screening, including a temperature check, for all patients and caregivers entering the School of Dentistry. Patients should enter the building through the front (atrium) entrance on 7th Avenue S. in order to be screened.

Please view this COVID-19 Patient Alert for more information on preparing for your appointment.

Available Clinical Trials

6th Floor

You may qualify for a clinical research study in one of our research clinics.

Clinical research efforts are directed towards promoting oral health and sharing our resources and ideas to improve the quality of life of the general population. Simply put, they help us translate our research into patient care and the volunteers who participate make it possible for this to occur. When you participate in clinical research, you help bring new techniques, tools and treatments to dental practices worldwide.

All clinical studies must go through a rigorous approval process through an institutional review board before they are opened to the public. A principal investigator, who is often a medical doctor or dentist, leads the study. A research team may include dentists, hygienists, and other health care professionals.

As a clinical trial volunteer, you may be paid for your time and participation in the study. Payments vary from study to study, depending on its length and type. Also, some if not all of your treatment costs may be covered if performed as part of the study.
