The UAB School of Engineering is home to two state-of-the-art machine shops capable of fabricating dies and tools to meet a wide range of research objectives. These facilities are staffed by full-time machinists and engineers who are capable of consulting and working with faculty from different disciplines and departments.

Both of these facilities and personnel can be utilized by UAB researchers (including consulting and basic design services) at competitive rates. Read more below to learn about past projects and capabilities, or use the form at the right to request services.

Engineering Design Lab

A 2,000-square foot space on the ground floor of the Education-Engineering Complex is home to a full line of CNC milling and turning machines as well as 3D printers for almost any solid modeling services.

Research Machine Shop

Located in the basement of the School of Dentistry Building, the Research Machine Shop has been providing fabrication assistance to UAB researchers for more than 12 years. This full-scale manufacturing facility provides a seamless interaction between the design and manufacturing process.
