Since 2007, NIH has required that copies of peer reviewed journal articles that have been accepted for publication be deposited into PubMed Central.

National Science Foundation

NSF Requirements for Public Access to Publications

Either the version of record (VoR) or author's final manuscript version of articles resulting from NSF funded research must be deposited in the NSF Public Access Repository (NSF-PAR) and made available no later than 12 months after initial publication. This NSF requirement will apply to new awards resulting from proposals submitted, or due, on or after the effective date of the Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG) that will be issued in January 2016.

CDC Requirements for Public Access to Publications

The CDC requires that manuscripts be submitted via the National Institutes of Health Manuscript Submission (NIHMS) system for deposit into CDC’s Stacks digital repository system.
