UAB’s promotion and tenure processes reside mostly in the separate schools and college, including deadlines for specific steps. Please check with your school or college on those deadlines including any deadline for any required advance notice of an intent to seek promotion or award of tenure, and the date by which dossiers must be completed and submitted for the first levels of review.  The following are the dates for the 2023-2024 promotion and tenure cycle by which the schools and college must have completed all of their internal processes and have submitted their final recommendations for promotions or awards of tenure to Faculty Affairs in the Office of the Provost. Deadlines for submissions of completed dossiers by individual faculty members may be up to six months prior to these dates. 

Actions are taken by the Provost and/or President usually within six weeks of the submission of recommendations by the schools or college. As required by the UAB Faculty Handbook, each faculty member who has applied for promotion or tenure will receive official notification prior to the release of public information concerning promotion or the award of tenure.
