Global Remote Programs allow students to harness innovative technologies in a global context while increasing their exposure to cross-cultural competencies. These virtual programs are designed for students who desire to learn globally and develop connections with academic organizations, businesses, and people around the world. Remote programs not only provide students with a chance to gain an international perspective, but also reduce barriers to access including cost, time, and ability to travel. In a world that is rapidly changing, remote programs allow students to see the world in a completely new way.
Don’t delay, begin exploring Global Remote Programs today!
Remote programs are not designed to replace the learning outcomes provided by in-person study abroad. They offer digital learning options to enhance the existing education experience or to fulfill an international credit when students are unable to participate in in-person programs.

Students interested in making a positive impact in a community abroad may be interested in international service-learning opportunities. These opportunities merge community-based learning and civic responsibility through international service opportunities. Students have the opportunity to make a positive impact by utilizing their personal strengths while working with a non-profit, governmental or non-governmental organization. Students participating in service-learning opportunities with affiliate providers, such as International Studies Abroad, will follow a structured, reflection-based curriculum and may have the opportunity to receive direct UAB credit or an official transcript from their provider to articulate back to UAB.

Make your summer or holiday break one to remember. With short term programs ranging from 1 to 6 weeks, you’re sure to find a program that fits into your schedule. No matter how long you stay, your time abroad will be an opportunity to gain a global perspective, develop new skills to enter your career field, and gain confidence and independence.
Faculty-Led Programs
Faculty-led programs are traditionally offered during semester breaks and the summer term. On a faculty-led program, you are traveling with UAB faculty and students and earning credit for a specific UAB course. These programs range from 1 to 6 weeks and are designed to be immersive and intensive.
Affiliate Programs
Choosing an affiliate program means opening yourself up to more destination options and additional opportunities like service-learning, internships, and additional scholarships. Students pay a comprehensive program fee rather than their UAB tuition. Short term affiliate programs are available through trusted third parties like WorldStrides, USAC, and CIS Abroad, and are typically offered during the summer term.
