UAB Parking & Transportation will offer a new van service for students, faculty and staff with mobility impairments start of the fall semester. This service will be called BlazeRide and will be in collaboration with Disability Support Services and the AWARE Disability Management Progam.
Students, faculty, & staff with temporary or permanent impairments and who provide appropriate documentation can receive the personal service. Qualifying students must register with DSS and similarly faculty and staff must sign-up with the AWARE Disability Management Progam. The program is for Blazers with impairments which affect mobility which may potentially include sensory impairments or medical disabilities such as severe asthma or arthritis that may cause impairment. Once approved, users can access the service by calling 30 minutes prior to desired pick up time and the BlazeRide van will arrive anywhere within safety escort boundaries. The van will then drop off at any facility on campus.
