Here’s the scoop…
Earn points for Team UAB by supporting Redemptive Cycles, downtown Birmingham's nonprofit bike shop and the 2020 Corporate Challenge charity partner, in three easy ways:
1. Get Social
Snap, post, tag and tweet to spread the word about Redemptive Cycles on social media. Spread the word about their charitable services, snap a selfie at the 10K Bike Stroll or share one the Team UAB photos below — just be sure to include the name “Team UAB” and tag Redemptive Cycles (@RedemptiveCycles on Facebook, @RedemptiveCycles on Instagram or @RedemptiveCycle on Twitter) in your post.
2. Take a Ride
Team members can earn their 10K Bike Stroll credit any Thursday night between now and May 14. Grab your friends and head to Redemptive Cycles (1305 2nd Avenue N.) Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. to ride in the Downtown Trample — a free, socially-paced group ride of a flat(ish) 8-10 miles. After your first participation, every other attendance earns philanthropy points for Team UAB! Remember to sign in for Team UAB to earn points.
3. Donate
Employees can earn additional points for the Corporate Challenge by making a donation to Redemptive Cycles through the UAB Benevolent Fund. By writing a check noting “Corporate Challenge” in the memo line of the check, you get credit for supporting both great causes. All check contributions must be delivered to the UAB Employee Wellness office (Administration Building Room 270) by May 1 at 4:30 p.m.
Q: What if I’m not an athlete?
A: We want you! Whether you’re a couch potato, weekend warrior or regular competitor, you’re invited! There are several events that employees can join in order to earn points for our team, regardless of your athletic ability. Be sure to mark your interest in the 1-mile Fitness Walk, 5K Run, 10K Bike Stroll, Jump Rope Contest and Move 'n Groove (all non-competitive events) when you register and you’ll be automatically added to the roster.
Q: What is the difference in participation events and competitive events?
A: Participation events are open to all employees. Signing up for participation events — which include the 1-mile Fitness Walk, 5K Run, 10K Bike Stroll, Jump Rope Contest and Move 'n Groove — automatically qualify you to compete. Teams may enter unlimited employees and points are awarded based on participation. Competitive events have limited rosters, and points are awarded for first, second and third place. Visit bhamcorporatechallenge.com for a full list of competitive events.
Q: How will I know if I’m selected for a competitive event?
A: Signing up for a competitive event means you are interested in being considered for the team roster, but does not guarantee a spot on the team. Team Captains will follow up with individuals by April 17 to let them know if they’ve been selected for a competitive events. Team rosters will be posted at uab.edu/bhamcorporatechallenge by April 20.
Q: How do I guarantee a T-shirt?
A: Register by the April 10 deadline and you’ll get a T-shirt in the size requested. T-shirts will be handed out before the event.
Q: Can I bring my family with me?
A: YES! Families and children are welcome to participate in the Pepsi Family Fun Zone, which will be located near the Athlete Village. There will be plenty of activities, games, snacks and stations for the children to participate in throughout the day. Parents are able to sign a waiver on behalf of their child at any of the check-in stations or the Family Fun Zone. Only UAB employees can earn points for Team UAB, but friends and family are invited to join the fun.
Q: Will there be food and drinks available at Corporate Challenge?
A: There will be plenty of water and sports drinks in order to keep all of the athletes hydrated at each event throughout the day. There will be food and other drinks available for purchase throughout the day as well. Team UAB tent will have water and snacks throughout the day for Team UAB members and their families.
All events at Railroad Park; see event map below.
The Corporate Challenge will proceed in rain or shine conditions. The event will only be cancelled/delayed if conditions pose imminent danger to our participants. In the event of inclement weather, Knight Eady will explore all options to insure the completion of the event.
Corporate Challenge parking will be available at 1500 1st Ave. N (Innovation Depot), as well as street parking available within a three to four block radius of Railroad Park. Metered parking will be available to Corporate Challenge participants as metered parking is free of charge after 6 p.m. on weeknights and all day Saturday and Sunday including Saturday, May 16.
On the morning of May 16, 1st Ave. S. will be closed from 14th St. S. to 16th St. S. to accommodate Corporate Challenge activities surrounding the Chick-fil-A 5K and Fitness Walk.
