The Bill L. Harbert Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is the nexus for industry and entrepreneurs seeking access to the university's intellectual property or collaborate to commercialize UAB innovations.

Our office manages the broad range of technologies developed across the university. UAB innovations available for licensing span a variety of medical therapeutic areas, including technologies for diagnosis and treatment of cancer, autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and central nervous system disorders. They include platform technologies, research tools, diagnostics, and therapeutics such as gene therapy and vaccines, and vary in developmental status from really early to late stage technologies, including clinical trials. UAB also has a strong portfolio of engineering, biomaterials and computer technologies with a variety of industrial and medical applications.

In most cases HIIE licensing associates can share general information about a technology’s possible uses and benefits without a confidential disclosure agreement (CDA).
