A University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) spin-off company is expanding its international reach with a new strategic distribution agreement in Mexico.
Resbiotic, which creates science-backed, clinically tested over-the-counter probiotics to support gut, lung and immune health by targeting the gut microbiome, has entered a distribution agreement with Grupo Columbia S.A. de C.V., a company that produces probiotic supplements and innovative pharmaceuticals in Mexico.
Resbiotic was founded by UAB Department of Pediatrics Associate Professor C. Vivek Lal, M.D.C. Vivek Lal (Left) at the 2023 Innovation Awards.
The first offering under the agreement will be Resbiotic’s flagship resB Lung Support Probiotic. The probiotic was developed to improve respiratory structure and function, support gut health and promote better sleep.
"Building on Resbiotic's remarkable brand growth in North America, expanding into Mexico and other major international markets through strategic co-branding partnerships marks an exciting milestone in our global growth and distribution strategy," Lal said.
Products are expected to be available throughout major Mexican markets by May 2025.
Lal said Resbiotic plans to next expand its brick-and-mortar retail footprint in the United States, while also launching new products.
