Igniting Data Insights Information Technology

The IDI Executive Committee, led by the Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, along with the Senior Vice President for Advancement and Strategic Initiatives, serves as a liaison to the President and provides strategic oversight and direction for key decisions made by the Steering Committee. The Executive Committee is responsible for visibly supporting initiatives across all levels of management and removing institutional barriers. It sets the vision, goals, and strategic objectives for implementation, and approves the scope, timeline, and budget for the initiative.

Steering Committee: The Steering Committee serves as the bridge between the Executive Committee and Working Groups within the IDI initiative. It aligns business requirements across departments, prioritizes data initiatives, and fosters cross-unit collaboration. The committee provides strategic and cultural guidance, recommends policies, training, and community engagement, monitors progress, removes barriers to implementation at the working group level, and serves as a change management leader.

Working Groups: The working groups are composed of subject matter experts (SMEs) from cross-functional areas who help ensure adherence to data policies, uphold governance standards, and operationalize the use of the new technology. Working groups are aligned by department or data domain such as students, research, finance, and advancement, and may be created or modified as the initiative evolves through different phases. The charges for each working group may vary by project phase or based on their focus. 

Initiative Support Team: Comprising the Project Sponsor, Implementation Owner, Project Director of Strategic Initiatives, and Core Team, the Initiative Support Team enables success across all committees and working groups. It provides strategic oversight, operational leadership, and coordination to ensure smooth implementation, support change management, and guide the transition from rollout to full-scale execution.

  • The Project Sponsor, Associate Vice President and Deputy Chief Information Officer, is a senior leader within the division of Information Technology who champions the initiative at the executive level. The Project Sponsor oversees the allocation of funding from the Strategic Investment Fund and ensures resources are used effectively to achieve the stated outcomes, provides high-level guidance to the Executive Committee on major decisions, risks, and changes that may impact the initiative’s success.
  • The Implementation Owner, the Chief Data Officer, leads the day-to-day execution of the IDI initiative. This role ensures that the strategic vision is translated into actionable plans, and that progress is monitored and reported across all working groups and committees.
  • The Project Director of Strategic Initiatives bridges strategic planning and operational execution. This role will support the Executive Committee, Project Sponsor, and Implementation Owner by managing initiative frameworks, stakeholder engagement, and communication strategies.  
  • The Core Team comprises the Implementation Owner, Data Governance Manager, and subject matter experts who develop and provide enterprise direction for data strategy, governance, change management, and training. The team is responsible for executing the Foundational Structure activities of the initiative.
