The 1917 Dental Clinic began seeing patients in February 1995. The Dental Clinic is start-of-the-art, offering a wide range of comprehensive oral health services to people living with HIV (PLWH). Proper oral health and dental care should be an integral part of your health plan. The 1917 Dental Clinic’s mission is to provide you with compassionate and professional care.

Location: The 1917 Dental Clinic is located on the second floor of the UAB Medicine Specialty Care clinic at 3220 5th Avenue South in Birmingham.

Services Offered

The 1917 Dental Clinic offers routine cleanings and check-ups, comprehensive oral evaluations, fillings, crowns and bridges, minor oral surgery, periodontal therapy, soft tissue diagnosis and treatment, complete dentures and partial dentures, as well as referrals for specialty services such as root canals and wisdom tooth removal.

Appointments can be made by calling (205) 975-9842 or stopping by the front desk during regular office hours. The 1917 Dental Clinic will only accept HIV-positive persons who are also patients of the 1917 Clinic.

Payments and Insurance

Payment is due at time of service. The 1917 Dental Clinic is a preferred provider for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama and Viva dental insurance plans. Some patients may qualify for financial assistance for dental services through the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Modernization Act. If you think you may qualify for assistance, please contact your Social Worker.

Your bill can be paid by phone, by mail, or in person at the clinic. Payment can be made by cash, check, debit, or major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover).

If you have a dental emergency outside of regular hours of operation, please go to the nearest hospital Emergency Department.
