Call for Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Applications in Cystic Fibrosis

The Gregory Fleming James Cystic Fibrosis Research Center is soliciting applications for a graduate training fellowship funded by the Research Development Project Research Training Core. This fellowship is funded by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The Research Training Core is designed to provide partial support for one year, with an option for renewal based on productivity. This Postdoctoral fellowship of $50,000 total can be applied towards Stipend, plus additional funding for health insurance. (Mentor will need to supply funding to get the stipend total up to UAB minimum.) In addition, the Trainee will receive $1,250 towards travel to the NACFC conference in the fall as well as $3,000 in supplies towards their project.

Competitive applications will have the following features:

· The project is dedicated to the CF mission (or closely related topics)

· Priority will be given to trainees of faculty not currently receiving flexible support from the CFRC.

· Priority will be given to applicants who are between 1-3 years of their postdoctoral research experience.

· Mentor’s support is necessary and should indicate how this fellowship will help the applicant towards an independent research career.

· Use of CFRC Core resources during the project is highly encouraged

· Recipients will be required to submit a progress report for their project after the first year to be considered for renewal

Applications Due June 1st

Awards announced by June 15th

Interested faculty/trainees should submit their application to Jeff Allison, by June 1st, that includes the following:

1. A cover page listing the names of the trainee, mentor(s), department and the title of the research project.

2. A two-page application containing Specific Aims, Background, Significance (page 1), Research Design (page 2).

3. New NIH-format biographical sketches for trainee and mentor(s). (Style for use after May 25, 2021.)

In addition, the trainee will receive $1,250 towards travel to NACFC in the fall.
