The Mary Heersink Institute for Global Health seeks to make an educational impact that is both innovative and a natural extension of UAB and the Heersink School of Medicine.

The creation of the institute is meant to serve as a global health hub for UAB, stretching the traditional boundaries of discrete academic missions and schools to give rise to a new cadre of global citizens who seek to have a greater impact through their work.

The institute aspires to develop scholars in global health by leveraging a partnership with McMaster University and other members of the Global Health Consortium and in turn has helped to co-found a Master of Science in Global Health Degree with the UAB School of Public Health.
