The AMC21 award offers recipients financial support and access to a valuable networking platform to propel their careers. Each AMC21 award recipient is granted $3,750/year per year for two years, amounting to $7,500/year in scientific discretionary funds. These discretionary funds are intended to complement the scholars' training and educational pursuits. AMC21 awardees have the flexibility to utilize these funds for various purposes, such as attending scientific conferences, enrolling in advanced courses to enhance their education, embarking on a brief sabbatical to acquire new techniques in another laboratory, procuring reagents for experiments, or acquiring computer equipment and software for their research needs. In addition, each AMC21 award recipient receives a $2,500 cash award upon enrolling in the UAB GBS program.

Furthermore, in addition to the AMC21 award recipient's discretionary funds, the hosting laboratory (led by the Principal Investigator) receives $7,500. This funding becomes available after the conclusion of the GBS stipend support, typically around 16-18 months after entering the program.

For those AMC21 award recipient who seek additional guidance, they have the option to request an AMC21 scientific mentoring committee. While this is not mandatory, it is a valuable choice for those who desire extra support. The mentoring committee commits to reviewing and providing constructive feedback on any fellowship applications the scholars may prepare during their tenure at UAB. This collaboration significantly enhances the likelihood of success in securing highly competitive fellowships.

Lastly, the announcement of new AMC21 award recipients is featured in the UAB School of Medicine News at the time of their enrollment at UAB. Thety are also invited to an annual reception, affording them the opportunity to connect with faculty members from various disciplines across the campus.
