Ore V. Adekunle
Ore was born in Lawrenceville and grew up in Conyers, GA. After high school, she attended Agnes Scott College where she studied Chemistry and Neuroscience. She stayed local for medical school and attended Morehouse School of Medicine. Ore is excited to start her residency at UAB and is interested in exploring all aspects of internal medicine. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring new restaurants, cooking, baking, and cheering on the New Orleans Saints. She looks forward to exploring all of what Birmingham has to offer!

N. Tyler Beavers
Tyler was born and raised in Chatsworth, Ga. After completing his undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of North Georgia, he went on to obtain his medical degree at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Va. He is excited to now be joining UAB where he hopes to grow his skill as a physician and explore interests in various fields including Oncology, Cardiology, and Healthcare Leadership. Outside of medicine, Tyler enjoys reading, cycling, and exploring the world one new restaurant at a time.

Michael Brouner
Born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Bobby received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2016. Following graduation, Bobby went on to complete his medical school training at the University of TennesseeCollege of Medicine in Memphis, Tennessee. Overall, he is very excited for the opportunity to train at UAB and hopes to pursue a future career in cardiology or hospital medicine. In his free time, you can find him playing tennis, watching sports, hiking with his fiancee and playing fetch with their golden retriever.

Jeanette B. Brown
Jeanette was born and raised in Jupiter, FL. She attended the University of Florida for her BS in Biology and the University of Miami for both her MD and MS in Genomic Medicine. She has a clinical interest in hereditary GI cancers and plans to pursue an academic career in either gastroenterology or oncology. Jeanette is excited to be moving to Birmingham and is looking forward to trading beaches and boating for hills and hiking.

Karen E. Campbell
Karen was born in Atlanta, GA and grew up in a suburb of Atlanta. She earned her B.S. in Biology from Georgia Southern University and attended the Medical College of Georgia shortly afterwards. She is thrilled to start her new life in Birmingham! In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, completing DIY projects, and watching YouTube videos.

Bria K. Carrithers
Bria grew up in Albany, Georgia, where she first found her love for people and community in the small city. She graduated from the #1 Historically Black College or University in the US, Spelman College, while majoring in Biology. She then attended the Medical College of Georgia for her medical education. She knew that UAB was her first choice after her interview day and is excited to continue her medical training in Birmingham! She plans to pursue a career in Hematology/Oncology, with specific focus on improving survivorship and transitional care in sickle cell patients. In her free time, Bria loves to meet new people (and friends!), explore/support local shops, and create needed conversations around improving diversity, equity, and inclusion for learners in medicine.

Daniel H. Clausing
Daniel was a lifelong Kansan before coming to Birmingham for residency. He graduated with a degree Electrical Engineering from K-State but discovered that medicine was his calling midway through college. After medical school, Daniel and his wife decided it was time to explore a different part of the country and Birmingham has been a great fit. He's learning that it's either Roll Tide or War Eagle in these parts and that decision makes him nervous (so go Blazers?). In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and son, watching sports, running (poorly), and reading biographies as well as Malcolm Gladwell books.

Isha R. Dabke
Isha was born near Mumbai, India, but grew up in Columbus, GA. She went to the University of Georgia to complete her undergraduate education and majored in Spanish and Biochemistry. She then went on to the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA. She is excited to start her residency training at UAB along with her fiance, Parth. Some of her favorite hobbies include listening to true crime podcasts on daily walks, trying out new coffee shops in every city she visits, knitting, and watching tons of Netflix!

Lauren V. Daley
Lauren was raised in Southwest Florida. After completing her undergraduate studies at Florida Gulf Coast University, she migrated to the east coast of Florida to earn her medical degree at Florida Atlantic University. She is now thrilled to continue her medical education in the true South by joining the residency program at UAB and is currently considering a career in gastroenterology. In her free time Lauren enjoys music, baking, hiking, and riding around on her fiancé's motorcycle.

Alex M. D'Amico
Alex was born and raised in Birmingham, AL. He attended college at Auburn University where he received a degree in Biomedical Sciences. He then moved back home to Birmingham and spent one year working as a clinical assistant at Children’s of Alabama prior to entering medical school. Alex received his medical degree from UAB and he is very excited to continue his training in Birmingham. Alex’s career interests include cardiology and critical care medicine. In his free time, he enjoys playing guitar, reading, and running at local parks.

Joel DeLeeuw
Joel was born and raised in Michigan. He moved with his family to Texas after high school and attended the University of Texas at Austin. Later he went to medical school at Texas Tech University in El Paso, Texas, where he met his wife, who is going into pediatrics. He is very excited to start residency at UAB and hopes to pursue a career in Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine. In his down time you will find him working out in the gym, listening to podcasts or audio books. Lastly, he is looking forward to exploring Birmingham and finding its gems.

Lizzie W. Durden
Lizzie grew up in Columbia, SC. She graduated with a degree in chemistry from Furman University and then attended the Medical University of South Carolina for medical school. Lizzie is so excited to have couples matched at UAB with her husband, Jamie, who is an Emergency Medicine intern. Lizzie is interested in either academic general medicine or rheumatology. Outside of medicine, Lizzie loves running, hiking, visiting parks with Jamie and their rescue dogs Luna and Dipper, and trying new restaurants.

Nick M. Forrister
Nick grew up in Carrollton, Georgia. He attended college at Augusta University and attended medical school at the Medical College of Georgia. He and his wife, Taylor, are excited to move to Birmingham. Nick has several career interests such as gastroenterology and endocrinology. In his spare time he enjoys playing basketball and tennis, watching college sports, and spending time with family.

Rick L. Foust
Rick was born and raised in Peru, Indiana. He completed his undergraduate education at Purdue University and then went on to complete his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine. Rick is excited to continue his medical training as an internal medicine resident at UAB and experience everything Birmingham has to offer! Outside of the hospital, Rick enjoys sports of all types, the outdoors, and exploring new restaurants with his girlfriend, Morgan.

Andrew A. Girard
Andrew was born in Tampa, FL and grew up in Orlando, FL. After obtaining an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Florida, he moved back to Orlando to pursue a medical degree at the University of Central Florida. He is very excited to move to Birmingham with his wife, Jennifer, where they will both complete their Internal Medicine training at UAB. While he loves the field of general internal medicine, he is also interested in pursuing a career in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Outside of the hospital, Andrew enjoys traveling, hiking, trying new restaurants, and watching college football (Go Gators!).

Jennifer L. Girard
Jennifer was born in St. Louis, Missouri and moved to Florida where she grew up in Orlando and Melbourne. She attended the University of Florida for college and medical school. She is excited to be moving to Birmingham with her husband, Andrew, to train in internal medicine. After residency, Jennifer is interested in pursuing a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care or working in general internal medicine. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, trying new restaurants, and baking.

Udita Gupta
Udita was born and brought up in Delhi, India, where she attended Lady Hardinge Medical College. She is very excited to move to a new country to begin her residency training at UAB. She loves to teach and wants to pursue a career in academic medicine. She is not yet decided upon a subspecialty and wants to explore all that internal medicine has to offer. She also has an interest in public health, health policy, and health equity. Outside of work, she enjoys cooking (trying out new recipes), swimming, reading fiction novels, hiking and spending time with friends and family. She looks forward to exploring Birmingham and experiencing the hospitality of the south!

David Heaner, Jr.
David was born in Atlanta, GA. He attended Georgia Tech (Go Jackets!) for his undergraduate degree in Chemistry and then completed medical school at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. David is thrilled to be at UAB for residency and serve the Birmingham community. He is open to everything internal medicine has to offer, but is interested in pursuing a career in gastroenterology. He is passionate about medical education, medical mission trips, and serving others. Outside of the hospital, you can find him exploring hiking trails, kayaking, fishing, or golfing.

Dan L. Hess
Dan was born and raised in Augusta, Georgia and attended the University of Georgia for his undergraduate education. He then moved to Charlottesville, VA to start the MD/PhD program at the University of Virginia. He enjoyed his 9 years in Virginia but is excited to move back further south and join the UAB family. At this time, he is most interested in pursuing a career in academic hematology/oncology. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, hiking, seeing live music, playing disc golf, and spending time with his golden retriever Goliath.

Kaitlyn M. Hooper
Kaitlyn Hooper grew up in Cleveland, GA a small town nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and home of the Cabbage Patch Kids. She stayed in the mountains to complete undergrad at the University of North Georgia where she earned a B.S. in Biology. She was subsequently accepted to Mercer University School of Medicine where she began the journey toward her lifelong dream of becoming a doctor. Kaitlyn is open to exploring all of the specialties offered within internal medicine while at UAB but is currently leaning toward general internal medicine. In her spare time, she enjoys playing all sports, listening to live music, spending time in the great outdoors, and snuggling her cat (Tabby Abby Wambach). Kaitlyn looks forward to exploring all the food, breweries, history, and nature that Birmingham has to offer. She also hopes to make some friends along the way!

Hunter W. Horde
Hunter grew up just north of Atlanta in Roswell, GA. He attended Auburn University for undergrad where he majored in Biomedical Sciences. After college, he spent a couple of years working as an arrhythmia technician and cardiac device specialist at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. He attended medical school at the Medical College of Georgia and is delighted to be headed back to Alabama to continue his training at UAB. He is interested in pursuing a career in cardiology. Hunter loves traveling, taking in the local food scene, and attending concerts in his free time.

Bella G. Kalayilparampil
Bella was born in Oklahoma City, OK and at age 1, she and her family moved to Poughkeepsie NY and eventually Houston, TX in the following years. She went to undergrad, graduate school, and medical school at Texas Tech University ("Wreck 'Em!!") and is now excited to explore the great city of Birmingham, AL. She enjoys bike riding (at a leisurely pace to take in the views), hiking (also the same gist), and cooking/baking. While in Birmingham, Bella looks forward to all the scenic hikes, exploring the cool city scene, and meeting all the wonderful people she will one day call friends.

Tim I. Kennell, Jr.
Although born in a suburb of Chattanooga, Tim has lived most of his life Cumming, GA. Afterwards, he came to UAB for the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) where he studied clinical informatics. He is now excited to continue his training at UAB in anticipation of becoming a hospitalist with a focus on patient care while leveraging informatics to improve patient care processes. Outside of medicine, he enjoys exploring the many eateries that Birmingham has to offer, hiking the great outdoors, or sitting inside working on his latest, craziest idea for a web app.

Emily C. Knowling
Emily is a born and raised Alabama girl and is excited to stay here at UAB for her internal medicine residency experience! Originally from Huntsville, Emily then continued her education as an undergraduate student at Auburn University, followed by medical school at UAB. While interested in academic medicine, she remains overall undecided and is open to the multiple career opportunities that internal medicine provides! In her spare time, she loves exploring Birmingham's food scene with family and friends, watching Auburn football and basketball (War Eagle!) and taking her dog to all the city's dog parks!

Ben was born in Tupelo, Mississippi and went to Mississippi State University where he studied Microbiology. He then attended medical school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He is very excited to do his training at UAB and to experience life in Birmingham. Ben is currently undecided about what field of medicine he wants to pursue, but he is interested in Cardiology. In his free time, he enjoys playing sports (especially golf and soccer), going to restaurants, watching sports/movies, hiking, and traveling.

Kyle was born in Houston, TX. He attended Texas A&M University and studied Biomedical Engineering before moving back to Houston to complete his medical education at McGovern Medical School. He's excited to continue his career at UAB's internal medicine residency program with the hope of pursuing general internal medicine or cardiology. In his spare time, Kyle enjoys playing tennis with friends and hiking with his golden retriever, Harper.

Kara F. Morton
Kara was born and raised in Lexington, KY. Alabama quickly became her second home when she decided to attend the University of Alabama for undergrad. During her sophomore year, she joined Alabama's varsity diving team, ultimately becoming a three-time letterman and team captain. She returned to Kentucky for medical school at the University of Louisville, but couldn't stay away from her sweet home Alabama for long. She is absolutely thrilled to continue her medical training at UAB and hopes to pursue a career in cardiology with a focus on prevention. In her free time, Kara enjoys cooking healthy plant-based foods, staying physically active, and spending time with her husband, David, and dog, Morty.

Parth was born in Rahway, NJ and grew up in Tifton, GA. After high school, he attended the University of Georgia and became a proud Georgia Bulldog. Afterwards, he spent the next 4 years at the Medical College of Georgia. He is very excited to join the UAB family and admires UAB's mission of patient care and resident learning. During his time off, Parth enjoys playing the guitar, running, hiking, and trying new restaurants with his fiancé Isha.

B. Chandler Pride
Chandler grew up in the suburbs of Jackson, MS until moving to Mississippi State for college. There he realized his love for medicine after working a summer for a hospital in Indonesia. He moved back to UMMC in Jackson for medical school and is still undecided on any fellowships. Chandler is thrilled to continue his residency training at UAB and to spend a little time exploring the city of Birmingham. He enjoys all types of outdoor activities and plays soccer, spikeball, volleyball, and golf. He enjoys running in order to stay in shape and a way to relieve stress from sub-par golf. His other interests are water sports, movies, tv shows and video games.

Payton was born in Atlanta, GA and grew up in Marietta, GA. He graduated from the University of Georgia and completed medical school at Mercer University School of Medicine in Savannah, GA. He is very excited to be coming to Birmingham, AL to pursue a residency at UAB. While he is currently focused on general internal medicine, he remains open-minded about future career pathways, including hematology/oncology and cardiology. When not on duty he enjoys traveling, playing video games, and spending time with family and friends.

Giovanna Rosas
Giovanna was born and raised in Lima, Peru; where she also went to medical school. After graduating from Cayetano Heredia, she became a research fellow at the Division of Rheumatology and Immunology at UAB. During her years living in the "Magic City", she fell in love with southern hospitality and considers Birmingham her second home. Giovanna is excited to start this new pathway in her academic life as a resident. She intends to pursue an academic career in Rheumatology. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring local restaurants, dancing Latin music and going to the gym.

J. Emerson Scheinuk
Emerson was born in New Orleans and grew up in nearby Metairie. He briefly left the city following Hurricane Katrina and returned until he attended college in Virginia. He graduated from Washington and Lee University with a BS in Neuroscience before returning home again to attend medical school at LSU New Orleans. Emerson is eager to join the UAB Internal Medicine Residency Program’s community, and he is excited to explore all that Birmingham has to offer during his training. Following residency, Emerson is interested in pursuing a fellowship in cardiology, but he is also enthusiastic to gain exposure to many subspecialties during residency. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, trying new restaurants, cooking, exercising, and photography.

Matt L. Slief
Matt was born in Edmond, OK. He attended the University of Oklahoma for both undergrad and medical school. He is thrilled for the opportunity to complete his residency training at UAB, and he is currently interested in pursuing a career in hematology/oncology or rheumatology. In his free time, Matt enjoys golf, basketball, fishing, and playing board games. He is also an avid fan of the Oklahoma City Thunder and St. Louis Cardinals.

Dan Spell
Dan grew up in the small town of Ocilla, GA. He is a proud Georgia Bulldog and graduated UGA with a degree in Agriculture and a minor in Theatre. After graduating, he attended the Medical College of Georgia for medical school. He fell in love with UAB on the interview trail, and he is excited to pursue a career in hospital medicine. He also has a particular interest in health care policy. In his free time, he enjoys playing basketball, tennis, DOTA 2, reading, lifting weights, and going to watch theatrical performances.

Ammanuel S. Taye
Ammanuel was born in Ethiopia before moving to the Twin Cities, Minnesota. He attended the University of Minnesota for his undergraduate. He then moved to Washington, DC to attend medical school at Howard University COM. Although undecided, he plans to pursue fellowship in hematology and oncology with emphasis on addressing disparities in cancer care and treatment. In his spare time, he enjoys watching sports, playing soccer, cooking, and spending time with friends exploring the city.

Emmitt L. Turner
Emmitt is originally from Maynardville, TN and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Tennessee (#VFL). After a year as an English teacher in Madrid, Emmitt attended medical school at East Tennessee State University. He is excited to train at UAB’s program that emphasizes resident learning. Emmitt’s career plans are still undecided, but his interests include health disparities and medical education. In his down time, Emmitt enjoys all things sports, playing guitar, reading, and (prior to COVID) traveling. He looks forward to exploring Birmingham and all its hidden gems with his wife, friends, and family.

Todd C. Veale
Todd was born and raised in Biloxi, MS. He left his home state after high school for Louisiana to attend Louisiana State University where he majored in Microbiology. He then took a short trip down the road to New Orleans where he attended medical school at LSUHSC. Todd is eager to move to Birmingham an begin a new chapter in residency at UAB. After residency, Todd intends to pursue a career in either pulmonology/critical care medicine or hospital medicine. In his free time, Todd enjoys listening to and playing music, spending time outdoors, spending time with family and friends, and watching the LSU Tigers play!
