Our nephrologists are actively involved in training residents and fellows to cultivate the next generation of renal physicians and scientists.
The UAB Division of Nephrology offers undergraduate, pre-doctoral, post-doctoral, and clinical fellowships covering an extensive range of kidney physiology, conditions, diseases, and injury. These programs are led by award-winning attending physicians, scientists, and mentors committed to imparting their passion and expertise to our trainees.

Post-Doctoral Training

The Division is home to the NIH funded NRSA Training Grant titled Interdisciplinary Training in Kidney-Related Research (T32-DK007545). The primary goal of this ongoing interdisciplinary training program is to bring together pre-clinical scientists and translational investigative researchers to catalyze the transformation of postdoctoral trainees from both basic science and clinical disciplines into independent academic faculty committed to kidney-relevant research.
We are currently takingapplications for trainees for this grant so please contact Monica Vasiliu (mvasiliu@uab.edu) with questions regarding the postdoctoral opportunities via this funding mechanism.

KDSAP - Kidney Disease Screening and Awareness Program

UAB Kidney Club
Clinicians and research scientists in Nephrology will visit classrooms to talk about their research, clinical experience and science paths. Selected interested students will have the opportunity to be part of the UAB CORD program and perform summer research in one of our Division's biomedical research laboratories. Due to COVID-19, the classroom visits will be virtual until further notice.
Kidney Club is part of the science outreach and community engagement efforts of the UAB Division of Nephrology.
