In the last several years, UAB Medicine and Heersink School of Medicine have worked to bring leadership development to faculty and staff through the UAB Medicine Institute for Leadership and Momentum in Medicine programs.
UAB holds its administrative professionals in the highest regard. April 26, 2023, is Administrative Professionals Day – allowing us to recognize and celebrate our administrative professionals while also highlighting the administrative resources offered by UAB. Most recently, the Developing Emerging Administrative Leaders (DEAL) program was established to offer development opportunities for current administrative professionals through training experiences and networking, to assist administration with their career paths and plans of advancing within UAB and UAB Medicine.

The Heersink School of Medicine is spotlighting each of the women selected for the Momentum in Medicine at UAB program and hosting one-on-one interviews to learn their stories. In May, Heersink communications sat down with Megann Bates Cain, Donna Bailer, and Dr. Cathy Fuller to hear what the program means to them.

Jennie Craft, MPPM, C-TAGME, received the 2021 GME Institutional Coordinator Excellence Award from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, recognizing her leadership and dedication to residency and fellowship training.
Selwyn M. Vickers, M.D., FACS, dean of the School of Medicine, welcomed thirteen faculty members and their families to the Endow Chairs and Professorships Reception Nov. 5.
UAB Medicine has partnered with MedEd Solutions to offer the Well-Being Index—a brief online self-assessment which provides immediate, individualized feedback including tools and local and national resources to address personal well-being.

UAB Graduate Medical Education hosted an orientation to welcome over 180 new residents and fellows on Wednesday, June 20. Throughout the day, residents and fellows enjoyed attending various sessions that covered topics to prepare them to begin training at UAB.

SPARC, a UAB Medicine and Medscape innovation initiative, awarded three winners shared funding of $40,000 in grants for quality improvement projects at the end of 2016. The winners recently shared their outcomes and insights from their projects approximately a year after receiving the funding.
