Members of the UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center (UCDC) participated in the UAB Core and Shared Resources Day on January 27.
Presented annually in conjunction with the Marchase Interdisciplinary Research Lecture sponsored by the Office of Research, Core Day offers faculty, students, and staff an opportunity to learn about UAB’s core and shared resource facilities and how they can assist with research needs.
Marcia McNutt, Ph.D., president of the National Academy of Sciences, presented the Marchase Lecture, “Breaking Down Silos: Transdisciplinary Research in the 21st Century.” Stephen Watts, Ph.D., professor in the UAB Department of Biology and UCDC senior scientist, received the 2026 Richard B. Marchase, Ph.D. Award in recognition of his exceptional contributions to advancing interdisciplinary research.
Following the lecture and award presentation, UCDC members participated in the poster session, which included 67 posters from centers and cores across UAB. See posters here.
Core Day is coordinated by the UAB Council of Center and Institute Administrators (CoCIA), comprised of administrators from University-Wide Interdisciplinary Research Centers (UWIRC) including UCDC Administrator Tiffany Grimes, RN.
Teayoun Kim, Ph.D., a research scientist in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism and member of the Habegger Lab, presented the Small Animal Glycemic Clamp Core poster at Core Day 2026.
