The Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) Fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is accredited by the ACGME and is compliant with ACGME Program Requirements. It is a three-year fellowship for gynecologists. To qualify for this fellowship, the applicant should have completed or plan to complete a residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology in the US or Canada and be in good standing with the American Board of these specialties. All applicants are also required to meet UAB employment requirements including the institutions’ smoke-free policy. Please visit http://www.uab.edu/humanresources/home/policies.

Each fellowship includes 12 months of research, which may be basic science or clinically oriented, interspersed with 24 or 12 months of clinical rotations in Urogynecology and Urology. The Core Fellowship faculty include five Urogynecologists and two Urologists. Ancillary faculty includes two Geriatric Specialists, two Radiologists who specialize in pelvic imaging, and three Colorectal Surgeons. Fellows are trained in the evaluations and treatment of women with all pelvic floor disorders. Both surgical and non-surgical approaches to treatment are emphasized. Fellows are also prepared for academic careers via full participation in research projects, grant development, presentations at national meetings, and journal publications. Fellows are expected to complete courses or equivalent training in quantitative techniques of biostatistics and other areas related to research. Completion of master’s level graduate degrees concurrent with Fellowship Training is offered. The program will participate in the FPMRS match with the time determined by NRMP. The Fellowship application form is through ERAS and selection and interviews are through our office.
