What do you love about UAB OB/GYN?
Clinically, UAB has excellent training in both obstetrics and gynecology as well as high volume and acuity. As residents, we get fantastic autonomy that allows you to truly develop as a clinician. There is also great mentorship for research and future career plans.

What do you love about Birmingham?
Birmingham is an incredibly easy city to live in that still offers plenty to do. Traffic is minimal, and it's very easy to get to and from home, work, and happy hour. There are plenty of outdoor activities to do and places to eat during your time off without spending your entire residency in traffic.

What do you love about UAB OB/GYN?
There are really so many things: the patient acuity, the graduate autonomy of the residents, the subspecialty exposure... but really it's the people. It's easier to strive for excellence when it's embedded in the culture.

What do you love about Birmingham?
Birmingham is a hidden gem. It's a city with a rich, sometimes strident history, but nowadays that's manifest as a socially-aware population of professionals with a mind for social justice and equity. UAB, the system, is a great example of that. Plus the food is amazing (and affordable).

    What are your career goals/interests?
I hope to match into a gynecologic oncology fellowship en route to a future in academic medicine focused on education.

What do you love about UAB OB/GYN?
The high volume of critically ill women we care for, and knowing that after UAB, I could pursue any career path of my choosing and our department and faculty would be supportive

What do you love about Birmingham?
The ease of living - my husband and I rent a house with a yard for our puppy, despite still paying back loans, and it takes me 10 minutes to drive in the morning with minimal traffic

    What are your career goals/interests?

What do you love about Birmingham?
While I moved to Birmingham from a big city, I have loved my time in Birmingham. It has incredible access to nature basically right outside your front door, whether that is outdoor walks, hiking trails, or beautiful lakes. The food is incredible, with an amazing collection of Southern cooking along with influences from across the country. There is never any traffic, and it's a bad day if my commute to work is longer than five minutes. The city is affordable to rent or buy, and it gives awesome access to the entire Southeastern US. The best part however are the people - they are kind, welcoming, and generous. Living here for residency has been an amazing experience overall.

    What are your career goals/interests?
I will be pursuing a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility after residency.

What do you love about UAB OB/GYN?
The people of UAB make it the incredible place it is! The faculty and fellows are amazing; not only ridiculously accomplished but completely approachable and invested in resident training. My co-residents make coming to work everyday incredible and so much fun. Most of all, I love that I feel so prepared to practice competently on my own after graduation!

What do you love about Birmingham?
Birmingham is a fantastic place - the food scene is one of the best in the country. There are numerous outdoor activities for whatever your interest, and it is affordable and convenient to live near the hospital as a resident. As a mom, I have also felt like it has been the perfect place to raise a family!

What do you love about UAB OB/GYN?
I knew that, beyond joining a rigorous and well-rounded training program, I’d be joining a department that treats its own like family.

What do you love about Birmingham?
There are a lot of opportunities to be out and about during our time off—whether exploring new (and old) restaurants, happy hour’ing at breweries or bars, or hiking at any of the nearby mountains.

I love the safe autonomy provided to the residents and the graduated responsibility platform. Most of the PGY4s were acting as attendings and felt very confident in their surgical skills and managing clinical complications prior to graduation, which is something I wanted to have.

What do you love about Birmingham?
There is a great restaurant scene and the cost of living is great on a resident's salary.

    What are your career goals/interests?
My hope is to become a well-rounded, academic reproductive endocrinology & infertility physician and advocate for diversity and inclusion at my future institution of practice.

What do you love about UAB OB/GYN?
Resident camaraderie. We work hard, but we have a lot of fun doing it. I also really appreciate the high acuity of our patients. With our volume and acuity, I’ll be ready for whatever comes next.

What do you love about Birmingham?
I’ve always lived in college towns, so I love having a more moderately-sized city. There are excellent breweries and nearby places with great hikes to take my dog.

    What are your career goals/interests?
I want to be a generalist. Going from a clinic visit to a delivery to a hysterectomy all in the same day is what made me love OB/GYN. I’m currently undecided on academic versus private but have had great advice from attendings who have had experience in both realms.

What do you love about UAB OB/GYN?
UAB's OB/GYN program made a profound impact on me during the interview, because I saw how close the residents were as well as their impressive training. From day one, I was in the OR for gyn cases (benign and oncology), and all of the primary C-sections were mine as a PGY-1! Another hidden gem is the family planning curriculum that has given me ample opportunities to grow all of my skills to feel comfortable providing family procedures moving forward. UAB is a Mecca for research and has published many studies that are now the gold standard of care for OB/GYN. It is a luxury to be trained by many of the great physicians that have made huge impacts on OB/GYN practice. I am very social and out-going person, and I feel that the culture at UAB fosters a sense of community and camaraderie. If I had to do the whole process over again I would still rank UAB number 1!

What do you love about Birmingham?
Coming from a large city that is expensive, I love the affordability of Birmingham. Just for perspective, I am a single lady that bought a cute house 10 minutes from the hospital. Moving to a new state without any family close, the warmth and welcoming southern hospitality made the move so much easier. I love that the city has a lot to offer. There are incredible, award-winning restaurants for a delicious night out. If you want to hike, swim, trail bike, or ride horses, you can visit Oak Mountain State Park. The topography of Birmingham lends itself to beautiful views from all parts of the city and stunning sunsets.

    What are your career goals/interests?
I aspire to become a female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery physician. Ideally, I would primarily practice FPMRS and have a week out of each month dedicated to flying to an area that is in need of abortion providers. I feel that it is extremely important for me to continue providing my abortion services to those in need regardless of my subspecialty!

What do you love about UAB OB/GYN?
As a fourth year medical student at UAB, I looked far and wide for a program better than UAB, and I quickly realized that I couldn't find one. UAB offered high acuity, large volume, and an enormous patient need. I knew that I would go to work and be fulfilled each day. This coupled with the close knit residency group and wonderful faculty made my decision clear. I was also very much drawn to the "do it" culture at UAB that offers a significant amount of autonomy.

What do you love about Birmingham?
Alabama is a beautiful place to live with wonderful weather, close proximity to beaches and mountains, and just really nice, welcoming people. Birmingham offers great community, a delicious food scene/fun bar scene, and a surprising amount of music. It's easy (and affordable) to live here.

    What are your career goals/interests?

What do you love about Birmingham?
There are multiple large parks within 30 minutes of my apartment where I can easily trail run, mountain bike, or hike after work or on the weekends. The food and brewery scenes are also great. It's a fun place to live, but not so big that traffic is a pain.

We have fun outside of the hospital too! We’ve got a long standing Friday night happy hour, take large group trips to the dog park on weekends, and basically take any excuse we can to get together. In addition to the amazing residents, I also love the variety we see at UAB. When you leave here, you are prepared to handle anything because you’ve already seen it, often more than once. As a lifetime resident of Birmingham, I have seen firsthand the evolution of the city - from the development of a fantastic restaurant scene and new outdoors opportunities to an emerging brewery culture. It will always exceed your expectations.

    What are your career goals/interests?

I am currently undecided on a future specialty. I look forward to gaining exposure to subspecialties that I didn't have the opportunity to experience during medical school. I do hope to become involved in some form of global health endeavors involving clinical work and/or research during residency.

What do you love about UAB OB/GYN?
I love being a UAB OB/GYN resident because I get to interact with and treat some of the most medically complex patients in the Southeast alongside world-renowned faculty at an academic setting that truly pushes the boundaries of what is possible.

What do you love about Birmingham?
Birmingham is a big, small city with countless things to do and see! My wife and I spend our free time exploring the local restaurant/brewery scene, attending the local minor league soccer team matches, and exploring the many parks and rivers within the surrounding area.

    What are your career goals/interests?
I am certainly keeping an open mind but am currently interested in pursuing a fellowship in gynecologic oncology.
