How can POTA enhance your Clinical Practice

By participating in these no cost trainings, you will be able to provide evidence-based care to meet the psychosocial care needs of breast cancer survivors and caregivers.

Free CME/CE credits will be available for licensed healthcare providers in the Greater Birmingham 5-counties including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, LPCs, MFTs, advanced practice nurses, physicians, physician assistants, and nurses.

How will POTA help Greater Birmingham?

This training is crucial because breast cancer affects so many in our community. Too many of these breast cancer patients, and survivors, experience depression, anxiety, body image issues, and cognitive changes that may persist long after treatment ends. The patients and survivors certainly need this support, but it is also important to remember their caregivers need support as well to help cope with their own emotional distress.

Who is Eligible for POTA training?

This initiative hopes to train local primary care physicians, mental health care workers, and oncologists on how to help their oncology patients with their psychosocial needs.

Workshops, videos and online platforms are being developed to help give portable and flexible training opportunities.

POTA Impact-Catchment Areas

This is the first community-based psychosocial training resource that aims to build clinicians’ capacity in caring for breast cancer survivors and caregivers across Jefferson, Shelby, Blount, Walker, and St. Clair Counties with the goal of improving access and quality of care.
