The mission of the Pediatric Pulmonary Centers (PPCs) is to develop leaders who will improve the health of children with respiratory conditions through the provision of family-centered care. This is accomplished through interprofessional training, patient and family care and education, research, consultation, and the provision of continuing education and technical assistance.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) PPC is located administratively in the Division of Pediatric Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine in the Heersink School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics. Clinical care and training activities take place at Children’s of Alabama.

2019 2020 PPC TraineesRSThe PPC Training Program Includes:

  • interprofessional traineeships in social work, nutrition, respiratory care, nursing and family leadership

  • post-doctoral fellowships in Pediatric Pulmonary medicine

  • continuing education for health care professionals;

  • consultation and technical assistance

  • research to develop new treatment methods and improve patient care

  • healthcare and education services for children and their families using an interdisciplinary team approach.
