Emergency Fellowship

The fellowship is a non-ACGME accredited fellowship separate from the NRMP Match enjoyed over the course of 12 months, and can currently offer one position per academic year. The fellow will work with dedicated members of the Emergency Radiology section of the UAB Department of Radiology as well as faculty in Neuroradiology, Abdominal, Chest and MSK sections. Electives are encouraged for fellows to gain valuable experience with other subspecialists.

The structure of the program consists of 9 months of dedicated ED Radiology rotations at UAB Hospital and 3 months of electives to pursue additional areas of interest. UAB is a Level 1 trauma center and handles volumes in the top 10 in the nation for trauma. Fellows are strongly encouraged to consider electives to include Neuroradiology, MSK, Body, or Chest including Cardiac.

The fellow will enjoy 22 days of vacation and 10 days of sick leave within the 12 months of training. We encourage internal and external moonlighting opportunities during fellowship.

The fellow will work alongside our dedicated ED Radiologists and will be actively engaged in the performance of emergent trauma and non-trauma imaging, code stroke as well as emergent Neuroradiology and MSK CT and MRI interpretations.

In addition to obtaining valuable clinical experience, the trainee will have the opportunity to participate in multidisciplinary conferences with the ED section as well as other sections within UAB Radiology. Our department has outstanding residency programs, and as a valuable member of the department, ED trainees will provide several didactic and case conference lectures throughout the fellowship year.

Additionally, the fellow will have the opportunity to use five business days for conference time. Additional conference participation will be considered, particularly if the fellow is presenting at a conference. Participation in research is encouraged and supported but not required to graduate from the program.

Eligible applicants will need to have completed five years of ACGME-accredited training, including one year of preliminary training and four years of diagnostic radiology training.

Thank you for your interest in our program! Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply!
