womens imagingWe are delighted that you are interested in our Women’s Imaging Fellowship program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The Woman’s Imaging Fellowship Program provides twelve months of advanced training in computed tomography (CT), ultrasound (US), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and non-vascular interventional procedures of the abdomen and pelvis in addition to comprehensive training in breast imaging with state-of-the-art equipment. The program provides varied experiences in both abdominal imaging and breast imaging that will serve as a solid foundation for either academic or private practice careers.

The Abdominal Imaging section has 15 faculty, who provide coverage for body CT, US, MRI, image-guided interventional procedures, and GI/GU fluoroscopic exams. Our abdominal imaging faculty members have a wide range of experience, accomplishments, and interests on the institutional, national and international levels. Several are widely known experts in abdominal imaging, with numerous scientific publications as well as prominent roles in national radiology organizations. Daily, our facilities perform approximately 150-200 CT scans, 150 ultrasounds, 10-40 MRIs, and a wide variety of non-vascular interventions. Routine clinical responsibilities are on weekdays only. Faculty and fellows share cross-sectional imaging call, with each person averaging about two weekends every six months. In some instances, fellows will instead occasionally take general radiology call, which primarily includes coverage for radiographic studies (chest, abdomen, and MSK). curley

The UAB Kirklin Clinic Breast Imaging section currently has three full field digital (GE) mammography units, five Hologic mammography units, the Affirm upright biopsy unit and four dedicated GE ultrasound machines. This section provides digital breast tomosynthesis, tomosynthesis biopsy, contrast enhanced spectral mammography (CESM) and automated whole breast ultrasound (ABUS) exams. Screening mammography services are available at four additional locations: the UAB Women and Infants Center, UAB Medicine Leeds, UAB Hoover. UAB Gardendale. Our breast imaging facility has received the Breast Imaging Centers of Excellence designation by the ACR. Breast MRI is performed at three locations with MR guided biopsy capability and this is an ACR accredited site for breast MRI. The breast imaging section performs over 36,000 exams per year. Approximately 16,800 of these exams are screening mammograms, approximately 2,200 are breast image guided procedures, and 1,700 are breast MRI's and/or breast MR guided biopsies. In addition to clinical work, our outstanding faculty are involved in cutting edge research, scientific publications, and national radiology organizations.

Women’s Imaging has implemented an All In Policy for the Match. This means that programs participating in the Match cannot extend any offers to candidates outside of the match. Applicants can withdraw from the Match prior to the ranking deadline if they accept a position outside of the Match.
