Research

Our Division provides a vibrant, collegial, interactive environment with a long-standing tradition of multidisciplinary collaborations. Our research programs are supported by substantial extramural funding (NIH, VA, Department of Defense, Rheumatology Research Foundation, etc). Faculty, staff, and trainees have contributed substantially to the understanding of the pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, and current diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to rheumatologic and immunologic diseases.

Education

Our training programs include a rheumatology fellowship training program, and research programs for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows.  In addition, we contribute to the education of medical students, residents, and those in nursing and health related professions. These programs foster careers in academic medicine, community practice, and positions in government, industry, and education.

Patient Care

The experienced rheumatologists and clinical immunologists at UAB offer patients the most advanced care possible, utilizing personalized medicine and “treat-to-target” approaches. As one of the largest academic rheumatology units in the nation, we evaluate and treat a large number of patients with various forms of arthritis, connective tissue, bone, autoimmune, and immune-related diseases.
