Medical students are encouraged to rotate through our surgical service to gain an appreciation of the wide variety of acute and chronic diseases seen at UAB Hospital. However, this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, UAB is accepting a limited number of visiting students who meet the following criteria:

  • Students from medical schools in Alabama or the surrounding states of FL, GA, LA, MS, TN that do not have a residency program in the specialty to which the visiting student is applying. Students with a state of legal residence in Alabama who are currently residing in Alabama may be considered.
  • Applicants who are not already planning to or have not already completed an away rotation at another institution.

*Review the UAB Graduate Medical Education (GME) Visiting Student Protocol, in regards to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For U.S.-based students interested in completing an away elective, please complete an application in the Visiting Student Application System (VSAS), the AAMC web-based application platform for visiting medical students.
