The Department of Surgery would like to congratulate Zhuo Tao, M.D., on her recent promotion from instructor to assistant professor.

As a faculty member in the Division of Transplantation, Tao works closely with the UAB Comprehensive Transplant Institute. Additionally, she currently serves as the associate director of the Histocompatibility and Immunogenetic Laboratory.

Last year, Tao became board-certified and accredited in bone marrow transplantation through the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI), in addition to her accreditation in organ transplantation since 2015. This certification allows her to transition to independence as she oversees histocompatibility testing for our bone marrow transplant program.

“Dr. Tao is very deserving of her new role with the Department of Surgery,” said Jayme Locke, M.D., MPH, Director of the Division of Transplantation and the Comprehensive Transplant Institute. “We are glad that Dr. Tao calls UAB Surgery home, and I look forward to all that she will accomplish as an assistant professor.”

Her research areas of interest include organ transplant, BM/HSC transplant, transplant risk assessment, donor selection, recipient and donor pair selection, transplant outcome, engraftment monitoring, transplant organ rejection monitoring, and HLA antibody detection and identification.
