On Thursday, Feb. 12, the UAB Department of Biology will host Darwin Day with highlighted research and lecture by biochemist Andrea Bodnar, Ph.DThe University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Department of Biology will host Darwin Day 2026 on Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Alys Stephens Center to recognize the historical legacy of scientist Charles Darwin.
The event will feature a public poster session set to highlight the department’s current research from 6-7 p.m. and a keynote lecture by Andrea Bodnar, Ph.D., from 7-8 p.m.
Bodnar is the science director at Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute, where she focuses on what marine biology can tell us about human aging. Bodnar’s research aligns with the goals of the UAB Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in the Biology of Aging, led by Steven Austad, Ph.D., Distinguished Biology Professor and Protective Life Endowed Chair of Healthy Aging Research. The event is free to attend and open to the public.
