Pilot/Feasibility (P/F) Study Opportunities

  • P/F studies provide 1-2 years of support to enable eligible investigators to explore the feasibility of a nutrition or obesity-related concept and acquire sufficient data to pursue extramural funding opportunities.
  • P/F funding generally supports full-time faculty members or post-doctoral researchers who are new investigators (usually below the rank of Associate Professor) and without current or past NIH R01 equivalent NIH funding research project support. Less frequently, we fund established investigators for whom the topics of nutrition and obesity represent a substantial departure from their current work.
  • Solicitation of applications occurs annually, with the intent to support 3 P/F Study projects at a level of up to $35,000/year.
  • The 2022 application deadline is February 25, 2022.

The Department of Microbiology & NORC Funding Opportunity

The Department of Microbiology and the Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC) are accepting applications for a pilot funding award that involves collaboration between a faculty member in the department of microbiology and a member of the NORC. Pilot projects should generate preliminary data that can be used in competitive grant applications to the NIH, NSF or other extramural funding agencies. This opportunity is open to any team that involves a member of the NORC and a faculty member whose primary faculty appointment is in Microbiology.

The pilot program will fund one 1-year award for $50,000 in project-related direct costs including appropriate staff salary support and supplies.A panel of research experts will evaluate submitted proposals based upon relevance to nutrition, obesity and microbiology research, significance, innovation, feasibility of the scope of work proposed and potential for subsequent extramural funding.
