The UAB Center for Interprofessional Education and Simulation will host its 8th Annual Interprofessional Healthcare Symposium on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the UAB School of Nursing.
The symposium, titled “Interprofessionalism on Wheels: Reaching Patients in the Community Through Innovation,” will explore how interprofessional teams and mobile health units are expanding access to care and improving health outcomes in underserved communities.
The event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will bring together faculty, staff, students, and health care professionals from across Alabama and the Southeast.
Featured keynote speaker Drake Lavender, MD, FAAFP, director of rural programs at The University of Alabama, will share his experiences as an eighth-generation rural Alabamian and discuss health equity, innovation, and rural medicine.
Symposium highlights will include:
- Mobile health tours and live demonstrations
- A panel discussion titled “Beyond the Clinic Walls: How Mobile Units Are Transforming Community Health”
- Poster presentations from faculty, students, and staff
- Networking opportunities and recognition of the 2026 Interprofessional Leadership Fellows
The symposium is open to faculty, staff, and students interested in collaborative approaches to health care delivery and community engagement. Abstract submissions for the poster session are currently being accepted.
