This year, Christmas and New Year’s Day occur on Saturdays. President Ray Watts and UAB Medicine CEO Reid Jones have decided also to observe Dec. 23 and Dec. 30 as holidays — in addition to Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 — to provide employees additional time to spend with their families and friends.

Employees of UAB Hospital, UAB Police, UAB Call Center and units who receive personal holidays instead of designated ones will have two days added to their holiday banks, and they should check with their supervisors regarding staffing.

Watts says UAB continues to make tremendous strides in all areas of its mission because of the outstanding work its employees do every day. “I appreciate your hard work and dedication during these exceptional times. I hope you enjoy this additional time to relax and celebrate the holidays, he said. “It is well-deserved.”

As with all UAB holidays, most campus operations will be suspended; but essential services will continue. UAB’s holiday schedule is available online.
