Ann Elizabeth Montgomery, Ph.D.

Following a nomination process through School of Public Health department chairs and a recommendation from a review panel, Ann Elizabeth Montgomery, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Health Behavior, has been appointed to the Quetelet Endowed Professorship in Public Health effective March 1, 2025.

This three-year professorship is designated for an associate professor within the school, offering additional financial support to aid in the transition to the rank of full professor. Dr. Montgomery has spent 25 years addressing homelessness, including 16 years dedicated specifically to preventing and ending homelessness among Veterans. Her recent work has further focused on studying Veterans experiencing housing instability in rural areas.

“My work has led to important improvements in understanding rural homelessness among Veterans, but more work is needed to understand the dynamics of housing instability in rural areas among non-Veterans,” Montgomery said. “The Quetelet Endowed Professorship in Public Health will enable me to extend this work to a non-Veteran population. In addition, this funding will further complement my ongoing mentorship of and collaboration with students interested in homelessness as a public health issue.”

Established in 2012, the Quetelet Endowed Professorship in Public Health pays honor and tribute to Lambert Adolphe Quetelet, a renowned mathematician and scientist. Quetelet is famous for the invention of the Body Mass Index (BMI), which remains to this day the official measurement for obesity for adults over the age of 20.
