School of Public Health News May 30, 2023

SOPH representativesRepresentatives from the Sparkman Center for Global Health in the UAB School of Public Health recently attended the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) Conference in Washington, D.C. This year’s theme was “Global Health at a Crossroads: Equity, Climate Change & Microbial Threats,” featuring 50 sessions led by 230 speakers, with a goal of addressing a wide variety of contemporary global health, environmental and development challenges delivered in an interactive environment.

The annual conference welcomes approximately 2,000 attendees each year and held the first in-person conference since 2019. Attendees included scientists, faculty, staff, students, those working in global health non-profit or government efforts, as well as private sector employees.

The 10 individuals from the School of Public Health team contributed to the conference in several ways. To promote academic opportunities in Global Health within the UAB School of Public Health, the team hosted an exhibitor booth. Sparkman Center faculty-led discussions via satellite and panel sessions, and six research posters were presented among the team.
