The Helen Keller Art Show of Alabama awards and reception event was held Sunday, February 26, 2017 at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute honoring students for their artistic abilities and creative works.  The students were from Alabama and all have been identified as having some type of visual impairments. The show is on exhibit at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute until March 17, 2017. It will then be on exhibit throughout the state (please see tour schedule below). The exhibition tour will end January 18, 2018 and will be returned to The University of Alabama at Birmingham. 
The purchase award winners of the Patty Johnson Award- Helen Keller Foundation Board and The Colbert County Board of Tourism and Convention Bureau are invited each year by the Foundation board members and Sue Pilkerton, Executive Director Helen Keller Birthplace Ivy Green to be VIP guest at the Helen Keller Festival in Tuscumbia, A. The Helen Keller Festival is held the last weekend in June. The artist will ride as Grand Marshalls’ in a city-wide parade, be recognized as VIPs and attend the play, Miracle Worker" on the grounds of Ivy Green. The entire art exhibit will be on display across the street from Ivy Green at The Tennessee Valley Museum of Art during the festival. This is an exciting time for the artist, their family, and the teachers.
