Jeffrey Kepes, MD (PGY-2) and Alayne Markland, DO, MSc (Gerontology, Geriatrics, and Palliative Care) collaborated with James Wilhite, Jr. (MS-3) to publish “Complications of Indwelling Urinary Catheter Care and Care Transitions: A Teachable Moment” in JAMA Internal Medicine

Robert A. Oster, PhD (Preventive Medicine) has been elected Chair-Elect of the Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design Special Interest Group of the Association for Clinical and Translational Science. 

Cathy Casey, FNP (TKC Supportive Care Clinic) has received a 2015 UAB Hospital Excellence Award in the Advance Practice Provider category. This is a newly expanded program to recognize clinical excellence in both inpatient and ambulatory settings. 

Martin Trojanowski, MD (Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology) will teach the Rheumatology exam at the upcoming Tinsley Harrison Scholars Faculty Development Session on Tuesday, April 26, at noon in BDB 334. He will demonstrate techniques using patients from his practice. All faculty are welcome to attend.

The UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center is hosting its 7th Annual UAB Diabetes Research Day on Tuesday, May 3, at the Doubletree Hotel. There is no cost to attend, but register before April 25 to reserve lunch! 

Coming next week to Medical Grand Rounds: Daniel Rader, MD (Chair of the Department of Genetics and Chief of the Division of Translational Medicine and Human Genetics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania) will present the annual Ray A. and Robert L. Kroc Lecture, “Translating Human Genetics to New Biology and Novel Therapeutics in Lipid Metabolism.”
