The UAB Internal Medicine Residency Program is structured to provide a diverse clinical experience in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Our residents provide care at two unique hospital sites and two continuity clinic sites, all within five city blocks. Our inpatient training sites include University Hospital, a 1,000 bed tertiary care referral center for the Southeast and the Birmingham Veteran’s Administration Medical Center. Across all sites, residentsl experience clinical rotations in general medicine, medical and cardiology intensive care, and all the medical subspecialties. During three years of training, residents will learn to diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical illnesses, both common conditions and rare diseases that involve complex clinical reasoning. As they hone their clinical skills, our curricular structure provides progressive autonomy in a supportive environment, with sincere collegiality and abundant opportunities for scholarship.
