The UAB Division of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology was ranked #11 among rheumatology programs in the nation according to U.S. News and World Report Best Hospitals Rankings. For the 25th consecutive year, Rheumatology was UAB’s top-ranked clinical program.

Kudos to Drs. Chad Lampl, Sara Marucci, Adam McKinney, and Emily Nance who demonstrated an “inspiring level of compassion and concern” toward a medical oncology patient last week. These residents’ commitment to care was reported by one of our night shift nurses, and we commend them for going the extra mile.

H. Thomas McElderry, MD, FACC, FHRS (Cardiovascular Disease) has been appointed the inaugural G. Neal Kay Endowed Scholar in Clinical Electrophysiology.

Jennifer Pollock, PhD, and David Pollock, PhD (Nephrology) are among 15 professors identified as today’s leaders in advancing and teaching nephrology and dialysis technology by medicaltechnologyschools.com, which helps students identify the best professors in technology fields. Together, the Pollocks have developed a brand new area of translational cardio-renal research through their work with endothelial cells in the kidney blood vessels.

Colin Reilly, PhD (Nephrology) received an NIDDK K01 award for his project titled “Abnormal STAT3 signaling and aberrant O-glycosylation of IgA1 in IgA Nephropathy.”

Steffanie Sabbaj, PhD (Infectious Diseases) has been awarded an NIAID R21 award to evaluate a novel source of mucosal T cells in the female genital tract.

Equal Access Birmingham will host its second annual Heart + Sole 5K/Fun Run on Saturday, August 29, to raise funds for the School of Medicine student-run free clinic which provides education and health care to Birmingham’s uninsured and underserved. Click here to register.
