Scholarship in Medical Education

Our faculty are rapidly advancing scholarship in medical education, clinical practice, and population health through research. Current areas of focus include clinical reasoning, addiction medicine, health informatics, patient outcomes, precision medicine, quality improvement, health disparities and patient safety.

We also lead fellowship programs to provide internal medicine scholars with additional training opportunities in quality and safety and population health.

Clinical & Population Health Sciences

The Clinical & Population Health Sciences (CPHS) fellowship is designed to prepare independent clinician-investigators to pursue careers in clinical and population health sciences. The overarching purpose of the research conducted by CPHS scientists and fellows is to generate knowledge and translate discoveries in order to enhance the health and wellness of individuals under the purview of generalist physicians. Those impacted by the research include individuals, communities, and populations.

Informatics Institute

Cimino cropInformatics Institute faculty conduct research at the intersection of computer science, data science, biostatistics, applied mathematics, human biology, bioengineering, and medicine. Developing new approaches, techniques, tools, and models that aim at solving problems relevant to human health and disease, including biomedical discoveries, assisted diagnosis, development of treatments, and novel therapeutics.

Hugh Kaul Precision Medicine Institute

Might CropLeading the way in precision medicine. Our aim is to enhance the delivery of precision medicine by assembling and supporting UAB researchers and clinicians in an interdisciplinary program aimed at discovering and applying new knowledge.
