The UAB Breast Imaging section performs over 36,000 exams a year with almost 20,000 screening exams. We have 6 Hologic and 3 GE DBT mammography units, an Affirm upright biopsy unit, GE Serena Bright Contrast guided biopsy unit, GE Automated Whole Breast Ultrasound (ABUS), and four dedicated Cannon ultrasound machines. This section provides digital breast tomosynthesis, CEM and automated whole breast ultrasound (ABUS). MRI is performed at three of our locations. Biopsies using all modalities are performed at The Kirklin Clinic. Our breast imaging facility has received the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation by the ACR and our breast MRI is ACR accredited as well.
In addition to clinical work, our outstanding faulty are involved in cutting edge research, scientific publications and national radiology organizations.
We are delighted that you are interested in our women's imaging fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. We are participating in the Breast Imaging Fellowship Match for the 2025-2026 appointment year. The match is sponsored by the Society of Breast Imaging and will be managed by the National Resident Matching Program.
Women's Imaging has implemented an All In Policy for the Match. This means that programs participating in the Match cannot extend any offers to candidates outside of the match. Applicants can withdraw from the Match prior to the ranking deadline if they accept a position outside of the Match.
