Students at the UAB School of Optometry can combine their four-year Doctor of Optometry degree with an additional degree that will allow them to better understand the ever advancing field of eye care and equip them to follow a variety of career paths. The UAB School of Optometry has partnered with other UAB schools to provide a comprehensive, interdisciplinary curriculum in three programs.
OD/MBA Program
The first program of its kind in the nation, UAB’s OD/MBA program exposes students to a truly interdisciplinary approach to learning. Here, the fundamental and advanced principles of both optometry and business converge to provide a greater understanding of the business of eye care. This program is offered with the UAB Collat School of Business.
OD/MPH Program
This coordinated degree program offered with the UAB School of Public Health allows students to focus their MPH in any one of four areas: environmental health science, epidemiology, health behavior, health care organization and policy or a combination (general MPH). MPH focus courses may be customized to the experience and needs of the student.
OD/MS Program
The OD/MS combined degree program at the UAB School of Optometry prepares students for careers that combine clinical optometry and clinical and/or basic research in vision science. The program, which involves a combination of basic science, research and clinical training, is for students who have outstanding scholastic qualifications and are highly motivated to pursue careers as clinician-scientists.
