After earning an honors degree in civil engineering from the University of Hong Kong in 1955, Dr. Albert King earned an MSEM in Engineering
Mechanics in 1960 and a PhD in biomechanics in 1966 at Wayne State University. He began as an Assistant Professor there in 1966, and is
now Chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering , in addition to being a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Mechanical
Engineering. He is an Associate in the Department of Neurosurgery, an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, and
Director of the Bioengineering Center at WSU. He is, in addition, Adjunct Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UAB
(1994-present).
Dr. King is responsible for the computational side of the SCIB’s SIMon validation project at WSU. His research interests include brain injury
finite element modeling, impact trauma, low back pain, and orthopaedic biomechanics. Dr. King’s many honors include a 1998 Smithsonian
Medal, the 2003 IRCOBI Aldman Award, and the 2004 AAAM Award of Merit; he is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
He has published numerous articles in peer reviewed journals in the area of biomechanics and other related fields. Dr. King is a member of
several professional organizations including the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering; Society of Automotive Engineers;
American Society of Engineering Education; and, the American Society of Biomechanics. He is a Charter Member of the International Society
for the Study of the Lumbar Spine, and is on the Professional Advisory Panel of the Michigan Safety Commission. He has served as Chairman
