On Thursday, February 23, the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Division of Student Affairs hosted its second annual Black History Program in the Hill Student Center Ballrooms. The event was co-sponsored by the UAB Office of Veterans Services, Student Multicultural and Diversity Programs, Off-Campus Student and Family Engagement, Student Affairs Marketing and Communications, Student Involvement and Leadership, Student Media, Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and the Black Student Awareness Committee (BSAC).

This year's theme was UABlack Birmingham, and the celebration focused on African Americans' contributions to both UAB and the city of Birmingham. Four pillars were used to illustrate these contributions: churches/religion, businesses, education, and entertainment. African American accomplishments in these areas were highlighted through recorded and in-person testimonials. In addition to the testimonials, a libation ritual was performed, and items from Birmingham’s history were displayed during the event.

Student Affairs held its inaugural Black History Month Celebration in 2022.
