3G Scholarship Tournament

The Green and Gold Gauntlet (3G) Tournament is the first UAB scholarship competition measured by both gaming skill and academic achievement. The Spirit and Traditions committee of the University Programs Board are official sponsors of this award.

The 3G Scholarship Tournament embodies the rich spirit of diversity at UAB by hosting a "mixed-game" competition that will include many genres (fighting, racing, puzzle, etc). The first place winner and Runner-up of the tournament will receive a scholarship for the 2019-20 academic year. The 3G Scholar will be awarded during BlazerCon on Saturday, April 6th! Please note that there is a limited number of tournament slots available. Applicants who meet all requirements will be selected by a first-come-first-served basis for an opportunity to compete.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have completed 12 hours at UAB prior to applying
  • Must maintain a minimum of 12 hours of enrollment during the Fall and Spring of the 2019-20 academic year
  • Must have and maintain an overall GPA of at least a 3.0 during the 2019-20 academic year

Scholarship Information:

  • Scholarship is provided by the University Programs Board
  • Winners that accept the 3G scholarship will be awarded Fall 2019, and will need to maintain a 3.0 GPA to receive funds for Spring 2020
  • 1st Place will win $1,000 for the 2019-20 academic year
  • Runner-up will receive $500 for the 2019-20 academic year
  • Winners will receive a notification regarding scholarship processing by May 3rd, 2018

Tournament Rules and Procedures:

  • 3G is a single-elimination game tournament
  • 3G tournament will test diverse expertise of gaming/gamers as a whole
  • Each bracket will feature one random game (fighting, racing, puzzle, etc.), which will be played on a random platform (PS4, XBOX, Gamecube, etc.)
  • Tournament seeds and games for each bracket will be determined by a random number generator prior to the beginning of the tournament
  • Good Games UAB board members will act as tournament organizers
  • Contestants must be present within two minutes of their match being called
  • Contestants that fail to be present within the time allotted without a reasonable excuse will be eliminated from the tournament
