Darwin Day 2024 featuring Keynote Speaker Athena Aktipis

5 – 6 p.m.: Poster Session and Reception
The Department of Biology will present a public poster session highlighting current research

6 – 7 p.m.: Keynote Lecture
Dr. Athena Aktipis - “The Cheating Cell: How Evolution Helps Us Understand and Treat Cancer”

7 – 8 p.m.: Meet and Greet
Dr. Aktipis will meet and greet attendees.

Dr. Athena Aktipis is an associate professor in the Department of Psychology at Arizona State University. She is a cooperation theorist, evolutionary biologist, and cancer biologist who researches cooperation in humans, particularly in times of need, as well as other systems that are governed by fundamental tensions between cooperation and conflict. She’s the co-founder of The Human Generosity Project and host of the podcast, Zombified. Her newest book, “The Cheating Cell: How evolution helps us understand and treat cancer,” will be the focus of her Darwin Day lecture.
