The Japanese minor consists of 12 credit hours at the 200 level. This ordinarily would consist of JPA 201, 202, 203, and 204. However, study abroad in Japan, open to students with at least a sophomore standing, can replace some of these credits. Talk to your academic advisor if you wish to substitute a class with education abroad.
To enroll in any 200-level course, you must either complete 8 hours of 100-level courses or complete the equivalent placement test.

minor requirements and
courses are available in the

— A Little Culture
Japanese businesses often have a maneki-neko doll at the entrance. The figurine depicts a cat beckoning with an upright paw, and is usually displayed — often at the entrance — of shops, restaurants, pachinko parlors, and other businesses. Shaped with a raised paw, it is said to attract business (maneki: invite; neko: cat).
