The Educational Specialist in Special Education with Collaborative Teacher Reading Concentration is designed for individuals who hold current Class A certification. There are are two tracks to consider based on your current certification - please see the program checklist for a description of the different tracks. 

Coursework takes between 30 and 36 semester hours to complete and includes courses in teaching reading in grades P-12, reading assessment and evaluation, and research and problems in reading, as well as an internship in remedial reading. Admissions Requirements

  • Candidates must have an GPA of at least 3.5 on a master’s degree transcript that was used for earning Class A teacher certification
  • MAT score of 388 or GRE test score score of 290 (minimum score of 130 on both the verbal and quantitative sections)
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Faculty interview required and scheduled by program coordinator
  • Attendance to a reading information session (prior to admission). Orientation sessions are held the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month from 5 P.M. to 6 P.M. RSVP for a program information session.
  • Application deadlines are July 1 for fall semester entry, November 1 for spring semester entry, and April 1 for summer semester entry
